Introducing NYPC
NYPC is a non-profit educational organization that brings together computer
users at all levels to share their knowledge and enjoyment of computers and
computing. We have monthly general meetings
that are free and open to the public. We
have a full set of classes and workshops every month.
At our Special Interest Groups (SIGs) users of applications like
Photoshop, Excel, Flash, Visual Basic, Exchange, Ventura, Linux and much more
get together monthly to share information, tips and tricks.
General Meetings
NYPC normally holds a General Meeting (really a presentation) on the third Thursday of the month.
The general meetings are free and open to the public.

January General Meeting
iCloud - Your Information Everywhere
Wednesday January 25, 6-8PM
Hosted and presented by Tekserve
Sponsored by our Mac SIG
Not just for Mac users: Cloud-based computing is a "hot topic," and this presentation will offer a great deal of information and insight into the "cloud" in general, and iCloud in particular.
iCloud is a new way to keep everything in your life in sync and up to date. New contacts in your address book will instantly show up on your phone and your computer. Work on your documents and presentations on one device, and pick up where you left off on another. Have access to your entire music collection anywhere you can connect to the internet.
We will look at how to setup an iCloud account, how to move your data into it, and how to make everything work together when you are on the go. We will also have a question and answer period, so please bring any iCloud related questions you have.
Space is limited at Tekserve, so pre-registration is required.
Tekserve is in Manhattan at 119 West 23rd Street, between Sixth and Seventh Avenues.

Looking for a Few Good Nerds
By: William Zeph Ginsberg
NYPC’s Program Chairman
Well, actually being a nerd is not required, I just like that phrase. What NYPC needs is a few more people who are intrigued by computers and related technologies, and who are willing to spend some time talking with the companies and people who are changing the world.
I have been organizing meetings for NYPC for about 15 or 16 years. So that is about 9 or 10 meetings a year, a 150 or so – oh, I don’t really know but quite a lot a lot of meetings.
Recently, I had to step down as NYPC’s Program Chairman. My wife has a number of medical problems that need more of my time.
It has been a treat to meet many of the movers and shakers of the computer generation. NYPC has been my real computer education. I have learned a lot from our meetings and of course from our members, who my daughter calls “My Nerd Herd.” It is great to have a collection of available gurus to call with a hard disk problem, or a printer problem, a backup solution, or a suspicion of spyware. Our member to member help is often better than a vender's tech support. Our Photoshop SIG continues to teach me far more then the expensive Photoshop course I paid for at the New School.

Classes
NYPC offers classes and workshops. For most classes there is a modest fee,
a handful are free. Our classes are open to the public, NYPC members receive a slight discount.
Have Fun and Help NYPC
Android owners, you can download a free game that raises money for NYPC. Balance the Beer is a simple and addictive
game developed by our Java SIG. It is advertiser supported and they have donated the proceeds to NYPC. It must be a
good game because they have raised over $1,000 so far (thanks guys). Click here to find out more.
