NYPC offered an A+ class starting June 25, 2006.
This is an intensive, highly regarded class. If you are interested in taking
it in the future, let us know at classes@nypc.org.
As is fitting for a
professional class leading to a certification exam, this course is demanding of both the student and the teacher.
Several of our past students have taken the A+ exam
and passed it. Others simply wanted to know more about
computers.
Basics of Computer Repair with Intro to A+ Certification
Have you ever wanted to learn how to service your own PC or your friends and neighbors machine? Perhaps
start a second career as a computer technician? This intensive twelve week hands-on class will introduce you
to the inside of the personal computer and give you the knowledge needed to deal with many of the hardware
and software problems that seem to occur almost every day.
You will learn how to diagnose and repair or replace failed components like hard drives, CD/DVD drives,
audio or video cards, etc. You will learn how add new drives, new memory and even a new power supply. On the
software side, you will learn how to diagnose and repair many Windows problems, how to upgrade or install
new operating systems, how to handle security issues and install utilities. This class is intensive and
hands-on as you will take apart a computer, remove and install components, and put it all back together
to working status.
The book used for this class, Mike Meters A+ Certification Guide, is comprehensive and using this book
combined with the knowledge gained in this class will start you on your way to becoming an A+ Certified
Computer Technician.
The class is twelve weeks. The last instance met on Sundays from 10 AM to 3 PM, for a total
of 60 hours. The cost was $695 plus the cost of the textbook.
The instructor is Mike Ostrowe, A+ Certified and a long time instructor
with a proven track record. If you have
questions regarding the course content, email Mike.
Why Get The A+ Certification?
Although this course is designed to teach you the basics of computer repair, knowledge that will surely come in
handy, not everyone who takes this class wants to get certified. Some just want the knowledge. Others though
may want to go on to become certified. A+ certification is the first step to a successful career in the world
of Information Technology. Many employers require this certification from applicants as it is the equivalent
of six months experience and demonstrates a commitment to learn and apply ones self. Whether you want to get
certified or not, this class is one will be glad you took.
